inverters and batteries

During the 1988 refit, Fir's Wheelhouse was fitted with a couple of batteries to run the radios and alarm systems in the event of a power loss. The old system is not worth reviving.

Few areas have advanced more than alternative energy solutions and batteries.   Modern battery systems are not just considered emergency gear.  They are used to store energy during peak production times so that the energy can be used at low production times.  The obvious example is our solar system that produces energy during the day while our greater consumption is at night. Less obvious but more significant number relates to surplus energy produced by our diesel generators.

Even our smallest generator produces more energy that we are consuming when at anchor during the day in temperate locations.  Our LED lights, electronics and domestic water pumps consume as little as 2KW.
